our cornerstone

We all tether ourselves to something for stability—especially in seasons of stress and transition. So what is tethering you right now? Maybe it’s your job, your partner, your phone, your family, your routine, or your schooling. The things that ground us aren’t always bad—but when they replace Christ as our foundation, they quietly begin to weigh us down.

For me, it’s been my guitar, taking all the steps to go back to school (yay—I am SO excited) and doing everything I can to secure full-time hours after recovering from my surgery. I’ve been feeling overwhelmed, and my mind has been in a complete state of chaos. I am doing good things, but my focus—and what I’m allowing to ground me—hasn’t been coming from the correct source.

I’ve been working on being more intentional in spending time with Jesus. Lately, I’ve felt distracted, and while I have experienced some peace, I know it’s time to turn fully to the true Source. I’ve been juggling so much stress and trying to control situations, and if I don’t get a hold of it now, it’s going to lead to burnout real soon.

During my quiet time today, the Lord brought me to Ephesians 2:19-21.

“You are members of God’s family. Together, we are His house, built on the foundation of the apostles and the prophets. And the cornerstone is Christ Jesus Himself.”

Ephesians 2:19b-20

These verses talk about Christ being our cornerstone—the One who holds every aspect of our lives together. In the church context, this might sound familiar to you— worship songs and verses often proclaim this truth, but I’ve realized I’ve never truly allowed it to sink into my soul. I took time to reflect on these verses and wrote down this question in my journal:

“How would my life look different if I lived by this truth: Christ is my cornerstone”?

I went on to write down three key changes I’d experience—I would feel less anxiety and overthinking, I would turn to Him first when I am struggling rather than coping in unhealthy ways, and I’d spend more intimate time with Him in the Word and in prayer. Friends, I’ll ask you the same question —take a moment to reflect as you go about your day: How would your life look different if you lived by this truth: Christ is your cornerstone?

Friends, allow Christ to become the source that’s tethering you. Seek His face first before opening your phone. Spend time in prayer when your mind starts to wander or when unwanted thoughts and anxieties replay. Even a few intentional minutes in His Word or in prayer can help center your heart. Let Him be the cornerstone that holds your life together—the anchor in the storms of your mind. The more you tether yourself to Him, the more peace, clarity, and freedom you’ll experience.

Jesus loves you and so do I,

-Malia
